Initially from my publisher who wanted a series of peoples 'Paranormal Perspectives' . Then it kind of took on a life of it's own and 'One Big Box...' became a meditation of what the paranormal might mean . (In this case the initial inspiration did NOT come from Proust :) )

Making sense of our own lives is a mystery in itself - Proust succeeded in doing it momentarily by eating a Madeleine Cake ( believe it or not ) . Perhaps I succeeded by spending the night once in a haunted cottage alone surrounded by peat bogs and four miles from the nearest road, (Perhaps I discuss this a little in my latest book 'One Big Box....' but the phrase don't necessarily try this 'at home' should be added :) )
