Karin E. Zirk I just finished an article for Communities magazine that will be out in the December 2020 print and online editions. Trying to blog about relevant topics as we struggle with the pandemic and Mama Earth telling us to chill out on our carbon emissions by sending wildfires and hurricanes throughout the land.
Karin E. Zirk I get emotional about an event, state of affairs, wrongs done to individuals and communities and channel my sadness, frustration, and anger into writing. Once I see a story is being to emerge then the hard work of shaping and editing takes place so that it's not a container for my feelings but an opportunity for the reader to experience their own emotions.
Karin E. Zirk I just finished Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese. I'm reading a collection of short stories called Modern Metamorphoses: Stories of Transformation. If you like the disturbing, then this collection delivers.
Karin E. Zirk The last thing before I fall asleep I read the last part of my piece that I've been working on and let it mull in my dreams. Then I wake up and immediately start writing. Normally the path through writer's block is resolved by this process.
Karin E. Zirk When I was young, I had to deal with a very emotional situation at a peace and healing gathering and I started journaling about it to try to process what happened. Then it turned into a short story that just got longer and longer until it turned into the core of the novel.
