"Are you afraid of the dark?" It whispered to me, before the lightbulb shattered and the blackness descended.

I'm only on my second novel, so haven't experienced the dreaded writer's block yet but you will have days where you will procrastinate and not meet your word count - and that's ok - take a break, take a step back, go for a walk and refresh. If you are working towards a deadline, take into account these days.

At the moment I am taking a career break as an Environment Officer to write but what I love about being an author is working at my own schedule from the comfort of home. It is also something that I am doing for myself, its fun being your own boss. I also find myself reading even more - the more you read the better your writing will become.

Writing is a bit like climbing a mountain, it takes a lot of patience, dedication, hard work and resolve to see it through to the end and they'll be days when you want to give up. My advice is to keep going and take one step at a time. You'll have days when you won't write much and other days when the story will write itself, take a step back when you need to but don't lose sight of your dreams.

I'm currently working on my second novel, called The Lost Ring, which I hope to publish in October/November this year. I am also working on setting up my own company to sell a bag I've designed.

I've been a book worm since I was a child, my bookshelf was lined with Stephen King, James Herbert and Dean Koontz novels. Even though I choose to study environmental science, writing a horror novel has been a childhood dream. When I get an idea for a story I write it down, it may only be a few lines, but in my mind I can already see the main protagonist, bringing them to life inspires me.

One of my favourite horror themes is that of a haunted house, so thought it would be a perfect setting for my debut novel. I wanted family to also be a big part of the story, as well as the whole good vs evil thread. The plot for the story sort of developed as I went along. Some of my favourite horror novels and movies also have a religious element to them and so I wanted to include this also.
