Stacey M. King As a writer, you have the capability of touching readers' hearts and telling stories of the past that not only need to be told but show that regardless of creed or cultural backgrounds, we as humans share the same values and love for our families. We are all one, yet we are all so different. I truly hope my writings inspire and highlight the beauty of indigenous people and their connection to their environment.
Stacey M. King I always work on multiple books and projects and exclusively work with beat sheets. This allows me to get my thoughts down and come back to them later when I hit a writer's block. I prefer to not force my writing and it allows me to truly focus on my writing and each episode of the storytelling. Usually when you start and get into your writers headspace the writing flows.
Stacey M. King At this stage with three more books to write in the Land of Matang series, another Banaban-Australia history book, and a screenplay my reading is totally research-focused.
Stacey M. King For me, it is all about the storytelling and weaving all the amazing stories I have heard together and offer the various viewpoints of the characters in the Land of Matang series. How their interactions reflect the thinking of the times and the tragic impact it had on the indigenous Banaban people. I use beat sheets to organise my thoughts and writing into chapters and overall story flow as my books cover a broad time span.
Stacey M. King Originally the whole inspiration for my books in the Land of Matang four-book series started with the discovery of hundreds of old family photographs and documents dating back from the early 1900s.
Stacey M. King Book Two of the Land of Matang series titled, Curse of Nakaa. This book will cover the period from 1931 until the 1950s ad includes the tragic episode of the invasion of Ocean Island by the Japanese during World War II
Stacey M. King My mother was the inspiration for Book One - Nakaa's Awakening - Land of Matang series. The story commences with my family's life and involvement in the early Colonial era after the discovery of phosphate on a small remote Central Pacific Island called Ocean Island, now known as Banaba. She insisted that the story of the indigenous Banaban people had to be told. Ironically my youngest daughter has asked me to write my story relating to my business journey, which strangely also had a Banaban connection. I am already about 14,000 words into that one for her and the overwhelming feeling that history is repeating itself.
