I had the idea for my most recent work, "A Rose, by Any Other Name And Other Stories" through a combination of two things, the first was reedsy short story prompts, and the second was an imaginary character. Fiction based on real historical events
Anthony Bannister, Investigative Journalist for NPR, interviews people who were witnesses to horrible crimes, human injustice, human suffering, and events which have been hidden or covered up. His reason and purpose are to incite compassion and care in the world and to make people aware of the true (hidden) face of America. He never talks politics or religion, never makes accusations, or blames anyone, using only the witness of suffering and injustice to wake people up.

Inspiration is everywhere. When I was a painter I never had the difficulty of not having ideas; I had the difficulty of deciding which of my ideas would be the next one to put on canvas. Writing is the same.

"A Twofold Tale". It's an Urban Fantasy novel that started with a dream. I woke up at about 2am and started typing frantically, finishing the first chapter. It's my biggest project yet; the finished work should be at least 100k words. Synopsis: Two pairs of twins are born in different families; one pair are boys, and one are girls. One of each of the two twins dies, leaving only one boy and one girl. In a parallel world it is the same except that it is the other twin who dies. At one point in each of their lives a paranormal event happens which makes their memories switch places with their twins, so each of them finds themselves in the body of their twin in the parallel world. The switches turn out necessary for the fate of both worlds because of the particular skill set and characteristics of each of the 4 MCs. The two stories unfold in each of the two worlds, Al'ard, and Al'bassita. Both are about people fighting (the same) fascist regime in a modern setting. It's a lot of work but I'm enjoying it!

Read, read, read, and read some more. Don't get discouraged if your writing seems to be ignored and invisible. Most successful writers have written at least 40 books and have been writing for 5 years or more. It takes a long time and a lot of effort to succeed (This is the advice that I give myself!).

For me, it's a creative outlet that I can work on while working full time. I've had a lifelong passion for painting, but it's difficult to manage, I need a full day free of obligations, whereas I can write anytime and anywhere.
The best part though for me is that I may be able to influence people, and even if it's only a handful, for me, that's sufficient.

There are several ways that I deal with writer's block. Two of them I learned from TED talks: 1) procrastinate just 5 minutes by playing a game (I play word games) I learned this from Adam Grant https://www.ted.com/talks/adam_grant_...
2) Go for a walk, Marily Oppezzo https://www.ted.com/talks/marily_oppe...
3rd, but very effective and not rom a TED talk, I read. reading starts the writing mechanism.
