I rarely struggle with writer's block, which I know is fairly uncommon. But when I do, getting back into a routine that involves taking breaks and "mindless" time (generally going for walks without any technology) allows my thoughts to wander and they usually end up unraveling whatever has blocked me.

Aside from feeling more truly like myself when I am writing than at any other time in my life, it's connecting with the people who read it. It was the most rewarding feeling in the world - and one I'll never forget - when I got my first bit of feedback about how touched the reader was that I was so realistically addressing romance after trauma. Making a difference in people's lives is undoubtedly one of the best things about being a writer.

Sit down and write! I'm a firm believer in just getting it all out if you have something you want to say. If you keep getting caught up with trying to make things perfect as you go, teach yourself to just let it flow first and then edit later. This was a hard one for me, but definitely worth the effort.

I'm focusing on my Life Imperfect series, of which Finding Annie is the first. This series follows the same characters over several years in their lives, laying witness to the crooked, imperfect path we follow when we're healing and learning to love ourselves.

I'm rarely NOT inspired to write, honestly. I have book ideas on top of book ideas locked up in my mind just waiting to come out. The characters move to the front and whisper their stories to me and I'm just waiting to have the time to get them all down on paper.

Finding Annie was definitely inspired by my own life; my history of childhood trauma and learning to navigate live and the lasting impacts. I wanted to tell a story of finding and learning to love yourself as an adult after those kinds of experiences, what it's like to battle anxiety disorders and try to navigate relationships of all kinds. And because I'm a firm believer in the healing power of love, there's definitely a strong romantic theme within.
