Just start writing--get those ideas down. And daydream, a lot. When I first started Soldier On, I think I spent more time daydreaming than actually writing.

By stepping away from whatever I'm working on and pull weeds or clean the kitchen. Laundry helps too. And driving! Sometimes my best ideas come to me on my way to work and I have to pull over to write them down before I forget. This happens at the gym, too.

The best thing about being a writer is getting lost in the stories and worlds I create. I also love determining how my characters would react to certain situations based on their pasts. I'll often make up stories about their lives that have happened before the present story. By doing this I feel like I'm adding a little layer of who they are. It's also fun to come up with ways others deal with issues or problems that are completely differently from how I would deal with them.
