Gwen Goodkin Learn the rules and then break them.
Gwen Goodkin It’s often exhilarating when I write the endings of stories because I usually start them not knowing where they’ll end. At this point, I’m more surprised if stories do end the way I planned than if they don’t. Also, when the stories I’m writing take unexpected turns - it’s a reminder that I’m not fully in control of these stories.
Gwen Goodkin My writer’s blocks don’t usually last very long - a week or two - but when they happen they are uncomfortable. I’ve been writing long enough to know that the only way to end it is to keep up my routine and sit down to write (almost) every morning. A couple other things help, like baking or going for walks, but ultimately writer’s block ends while I’m sitting at my desk.
Gwen Goodkin Drinking Coffee Elsewhere by ZZ Packer and Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by Octavia Butler.
