I've been mining Poor Richard's Almanac for titles, and the aphorism, "The most exquisite folly is made of wisdom spun too fine" leapt out at me. In addition to suggesting the plot of an arrogant murderer outsmarting himself, it also pointedly describes the politicians who created the Stamp Act, the dramatic consequences of which form the historical background for the novel.
