I don't - I just let myself be blocked and forgive myself. I think often writers compound a block with shame and frustration, which only makes it worse. Instead I just threw my hands up and said, well, guess I'm not writing today, Netflix it is. in a few days' time I'd see something random that sparked an idea, and I made sure to take action as soon as I had the impetus to start writing again.

Self-exploration. There's nothing like putting your thoughts down in a concrete form and then revisiting them later. This allows a level of self-reflection that's not possible with our normal stream of moving thoughts, and it can have profound effects on your life.

Pick a long-term goal and then write to it. As you do, you'll change what you write and what you write will change you. But starting with the end in mind will help; for instance, do you want to have a bestseller? A lead magnet to a product or service? A memoir for your grandkids? Your goal will dictate how you direct your ship -- after that, it's up to the currents to tell you where exactly you land.

Building community. Through my free Facebook Group I'm teaching folks how to go from 0 to book launch -- getting an agent, a publisher, endorsements, press, etc., because I had to learn it all from scratch. If you're interested: https://www.facebook.com/groups/hones...

I'm not one to sit down and write a page a day. Some days I'm completely blocked and have nothing to say; other days a news story or text message or Instagram quote will inspire me to write 5,000 words. I try not to be too hard on myself about finding inspiration, and instead let things come to me when they're good and ready to pop into my head.

I never set out to write a book about honesty. It started as a book about marketing to Millennials -- to a new generation of people who grew up with documentaries and financial crises and who were more weary than ever. However, as I dug into the stories of companies who had outperformed their peers with great marketing, I began to notice that honesty in marketing was only one area where honesty thrived. Indeed, the companies that used strategic honesty everywhere achieved massive, industry-dominating success, and thus Honest to Greatness was born.
