How do you deal with writer’s block?
Shannon Hugman I give myself space and don't try to force it. During the days I feel blocked I will focus on journalling and self development.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Shannon Hugman I got the idea while reading, Are You There God It's Me Margaret and realizing young people need an updated and more relevant guide to adolescence.

How do you get inspired to write?
Shannon Hugman I want to see the world change. I believe that through writing and sharing my creations I can inspire others to created something. I am inspired to write because I want to leave the world a better place.

What are you currently working on?
Shannon Hugman Currently I am working on a YA book connected to life as a 12 year old. It's a book I wish I had when I was that age. It talks about everything from the Moon to the menstrual cycle.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Shannon Hugman Write "morning pages" from Julia Cameron's The Artist Way. Every day (well I try for everyday) I write 1-3 pages of free flow journaling. I find it helps to get my thoughts moving and kickstarts my creative process.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Shannon Hugman The best thing about being a writer is creating something from nothing. It feels so powerful to start with an idea and then bring it into physical form. Plus nothing makes me happier than sharing my words with others.

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?
Shannon Hugman Definitely would go to the world of Daisy Jones and the Six. When I read that book I felt like I had a deep connection with her character. I would love to go there and be a rock star ;)
