I go for a walk! Sometimes my brain just says no, so I do something that uses a completely different part of the brain - so usually something physical, to give my mental brain a rest.
I also find that having a strong plot outline and structure of chapters helps to prevent writer's block, as I generally know where my next section is going.

For me the best thing about being a writer is the escapism. I love feeling transported into another zone while I write. It's a really rewarding experience to work hard and craft something. Very fulfilling.

Plan your story, but accept that writing is organic and the flow will change. Be open this.
Block out time to write as part of your weekly schedule. But know that things will interrupt you. That's ok. Even if you only have 20 minutes to work, it's still worth using!
Back yourself. You don't have to be perfect straight away. Learning to write takes time, and that's ok. Just keep working on it, learning, reading and developing your skills. You will get there!

I am currently in the initial outline stages of a new novel project, creating characters and researching details. The story will be a murder mystery set in South Devon, UK.

Locations and settings inspire me to write. I love the feeling I get when I travel to a new place. Sometimes a city, town, beach, river, park... anything really just speaks to me and my mind starts to whirl with ideas.

The idea for my novel Widow's Lace came to me when I was on a family trip to the Finniss River in South Australia. I remember being on the boat heading up the river, winding between the reed beds, and everything was eerily quiet; just the rustle of the reeds, the call of birds and the buzz of insects.
It felt like stepping back in time and it got me thinking about what it would be like to live out there alone, cut off from the rest of the world. And why someone would live that way - and the idea of Widow's Lace was born!
