The idea to tour the United States and check in on the state of retro roadside motels came to me as I was approaching my fiftieth birthday. I wanted to mark the occasion but couldn’t justify the expense of a bucket list trip. Because I love motels, motorcycles, and road trips, I thought that if I shared the fun and unique stories of the places, people for 50 motels in a book, readers can experience these highway icons for themselves.
