I'll force myself to write a few words, even if it's drivel. If this doesn't work then it's on to all of the heinously dull jobs that are ordinarily neglected: laundry, oven cleaning, vacuuming. I then decide that writing is a much better option and therefore approach it with a brighter attitude.

Read, read and read some more. All genres and levels, read books that are both inside and outside of your comfort zone, read books about writing, read fiction and non fiction. Be brave, don't hold your characters back from what they want to say because it'll shock Grandma too much (Grandma need not know). Edit, edit and edit some more. And then hire an editor.
