I was about to move overseas to the Middle East for the military while writing my first unfinished series. I had hit a long lasting writer's block. So I thought to write a short story to get me out of it. I thought of some cliche story about a demon possession, when I thought that it would be so much cooler to write about a teenage girl or boy being inhabited by a demon that acted more like a parasite than a possession. That's Soulstealer. :)

I'm in random situations where my mind suddenly stops in time and thinks: that'd be a great story to tell. Then I write a short synopsis maybe a few lines that keep popping in my head, like "Maybe you oughta tell Dink his toast wasn't as ready as he thought," and that forms the basis of a plot line that I expand into a novel.

I think about all the interesting mundane things a character can do. I also think about other stories. I don't rush through a block, sometimes it takes me months to get to the next chapter.
