I was sitting in my home thinking of what I wanted my debut book to be about and the first word that popped into my head was "balance." I knew that I wanted to speak to something that people needed and I needed as well, but I wanted a word that perfectly encapsulated the need for balance, and"equilibrium" did just that. Once I had the title and subject, writing the poems was easy.

This is the million dollar question! My inspiration comes from all over. Sometimes a conversation with my wife spawns a piece, a song, nature, and sometimes a book can be the spark that ignites some writing. The important thing to me though, is to not wait for inspiration. An artist I admire said, "Inspiration is for amateurs, us professionals just show up." I truly believe that.

I have recently released my debut chapbook, Equilibrium, so that's what has the bulk of my attention. Even though the book just published on April 3, 2020, I am starting to get the itch to write some new poems. In the month of May we will see the eBook release. My book is published and the goal is to get it into as many hands as possible, in efforts to assist with a common need for balance in a world where often little can be found.

Keep writing and keep writing and keep writing. This craft is not for the faint of heart or for those looking for the overnight success story. This is a slow grind and a steady build up. Believe in yourself and did I mention, keep writing?

I'm constantly finding new best things about being a writer. I've been a lifelong lover of words, and have been affected deeply by the words of others. Now that I write, I love seeing how my words affect others and how far my words have traveled. That is the best thing about being a writer.

I don't necessarily believe in writer's block. I believe that writing is a muscle and it constantly needs to be flexed. When I feel like I can't write I write anyway, even if I don't like it. My goal is to always write my way through, I write to get through the bad writing to get to the good stuff. If you believe in writer's block, just think of it as the wall you hit during a race. You have to push through to get your second wind. Push or rather, write, your way to the other side.

There are so many book worlds that it's hard to choose!! I would probably head to the world of Usagi Yojimbo, written by the amazing Stan Sakai. I would like to learn swordsmanship from a sensei. I'd also travel to the Marvel Universe and hang out long enough to get a close enough view of some of my favorite superheroes in action!

I don't really have any books on my reading list for the summer. I recently ordered quite a few titles from Amazon, so whatever I haven't read by the summer will become my summer reading list.
