Richard Drummer In days long ago when I was young and there was such a thing as silence, I walked alone down a dark dirt road where the tall sunflower stalks leaned over the fence and their mammoth flowers hung so low over your head they could nearly touch you. They began to sway in a pulsing, rhythmic motion, though the air was thick and still, devoid of any breeze, and all I could think of was quickening my pace and hoping to be out of their reach before they sensed me.
Richard Drummer I'm on a David Baldacci kick and have three of the Amos Decker books lined up to read at the pool.
Richard Drummer I switch gears. If I can't come up with the piece I need, I take what comes. Most of the time writing down one idea inspires five more, and sooner or later I'll come up with what I need.
Richard Drummer Indulging my imagination, letting it take me to new places.
Richard Drummer Write as often as possible and whatever comes. There are times to be disciplined and stick to a project, but creativity does not always follow the rules. Take what your mind gives you.
Richard Drummer ENEMY WITHIN THE GATES, is the story of Katherine Karlson, an actress turned presidential candidate who discovers a covert military mission that could end the Middle East war and destroy her campaign. She schemes to expose it before it can be implemented, but her plan is discovered by her daughter, Jordan, who demands she admit to the treasonous act before lives are lost. Karlson makes a fateful decision to silence her daughter and save her run for the White House. Can Jordan's small group of friends find a way to rescue her and stop a tyrant from taking the Oval Office?
I'm expecting Enemy to be complete by early 2021
Richard Drummer I came late to the writer's party. I was a musician/songwriter most of my life so I had years to imagine characters and storylines that I did nothing with until I began writing novels ten years ago. There are very few times when my brain isn't churning out something I find interesting. It may not be what I'm currently working on, so I'll flip the page and write what comes, then go back to I later. My next five novels are swirling around up there, impatiently waiting their turn.
Richard Drummer Grace Cummings, the protagonist of THUNDERBIRD, evolved from a motivational story I made up for my daughters. Middle school could be a meat grinder for a kid with a fragile ego, so I gave them a hero. Grace was a tough cookie with a heart of gold who climbed mountains, flew a plane solo across the country, and raced motorcycles. If they put their minds to it, I told them, they too could accomplish anything. The actual framework of the storyline came to me years later while on vacation. I sat writing for two days straight as the ideas flooded in. From there, the characters filled in the rest.
