Jake Nickens I know this is probably overly simplistic. But I think the answer is to put words on paper. When you aren't feeling super creative or something isn't working, try to set a small word goal, reach it (even if it's not your best work), and move on to something else.
Jake Nickens I wanted to write a story that blended the tall tales I heard as kid growing up in South Mississippi, with my love of mythology and scary stories. I also always liked how the original Twilight Zone was able to teach valuable lessons and make interesting statement using the backdrop of horror and suspense in a way that felt endearing.
Jake Nickens I'm currently working on the second book in my series of overlapping standalone novels. The second book won't be a direct sequel, but many of the characters in The Thin House will have a role in the next story.
Jake Nickens Creativity is like a muscle, no matter how difficult it is to utilize initially, with regular consistent use it becomes stronger and easier to tap in to. Don't be alarmed if great ideas don't come right away. Work with what you have, put ideas on paper as often as possible, and with time it becomes second nature.
Jake Nickens As I start to drift off to sleep, I feel warm breath on my bare legs and something covered in coarse fur brush my ankle as it make it's way up the length of my body. I don't have any pets.
