Hi - thanks so much. That's a great question!
Some time ago I was working as a store manager for Blockbuster Video. (That should give you an idea of how long ago this was) I was eight months pregnant at the time. My assistant manager and I were working on a very quiet Monday morning. It was about 10:30 a.m. and there were zero customers. Mondays were typically slow.
I was checking a list against the movies on the shelves, part of my daily routine, when two young men in ski masks approached and showed me a handgun. If I recall they said something like, "Okay lady, we're going to the safe."
I nodded my head as if this were just any ordinary customer request and began walking back to the office. My heart was racing.
I opened the safe and gave them the money. My assistant gave one of the men the money in the registers.
They had brought rope and said they were going to tie us up. I don't know why, but I suggested that they lock us in the bathroom instead because I was pregnant. The robbers thought this was a good idea. I was relieved because the bathroom locked from the inside.
These guys went on to rob several more stores but I never knew who they were. I've always wondered.

I get to work in my pajamas if I want to. Before Covid19 though I used to love to take my laptop to Panera and sit by a window and just write for hours. (I put on real clothes for that). I would get a big iced tea and get so much work done. I've had to learn to get the work done at home without giving in to distractions.
Another great thing about writing is that I get to spend time in Grace Texas, the best small town ever, with characters I love. So, yeah, I live in a fantasy world.

My 2nd book in the Grace Texas Murder Mysteries series comes out September 15, 2020. Even before I finished writing it, I was thinking about the 3rd book. I keep changing my mind about the title but I know the story line. It's going to be about country music and murder. Without giving too much away, we will see more romance for Jess and some characters will be returning. Of course, there will be complications and a few twists. This one is going to be different.

Read books in the genre you want to write.
Write as much as you can. Carve out time. I had to write on my lunch breaks at work, long sessions on the weekends, in the corner of the room at parties, or whenever and wherever I could.
Also, don't be worried about what other people think. That's a big hurdle to overcome.

Writing takes discipline. And coffee. Get in the seat, set a goal for yourself and get going.

This book is a cozy-ish murder mystery about a young would-be reporter in the fictional small East Texas town of Grace. I grew up in and around small Texas towns. I love the atmosphere of small towns where everybody knows each other and secrets don't stay secret for very long.
The idea came to me while sitting in the waiting room at Discount Tires. I started with an idea and just let my mind wander.
