D.M. Shepard Just write. Don't worry about making it perfect. My first draft is usually a total brain dump onto the page, and that's okay. That's why I edit. Even when I outline, I guarantee I will stray from the outline by the time I'm done. Some people just get so hung up on being perfect that they never finish.
D.M. Shepard I'm currently working on the sequel to The Dark Land, set in the Copper/Tanada Lake region of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, and still based on the Ahtna/Upper Tanana legends of the Cet'aenn or "People with Tails."

I am also working on a paranormal romance/historical fiction set in Dawson City, YT during the peak of the 1898 gold rush. I hope to self publish A Drink of Darkness in the fall of 2020 or Spring of 2021.
D.M. Shepard I got my idea from combination of sources. The Upper Ahtna tribes of in the interior of Alaska have legends of creatures with tails that were the enemies of the first people. The Dene tribes British Colombia have similar stories along with a place known as The Headless Valley. My husband has some creepy stories about hikes in these regions. I have done several blog posts on the legends, languages and sources for my story on my website.
