Susan B. Nickson Writer's block, hmm. To me, writer's block happens when I haven't either formed the characters in the scene, or I've gone rogue from my outline. I get stumped. That's the more serious block.
The garden variety of writer's block occurs when I've not written for a few days or longer, and I've forgotten where I was in the story. For that, reading over the last scene usually fixes the problem.
Susan B. Nickson Don't ever give up!!!
I know life gets in the way. Been there. Done that.
I took Creative Writing in high school, wrote 4 or 5 romance novels when my kids were small (none published), although I did win first place in the 2002 Merritt Contest for a first chapter.
Now, my kids are grown and my life has changed again.
The dream remained, and when I finally started writing again, I realized how much I'd missed the brain exercise. Writing requires you to use language and creativity in a way that nothing else does. It is a release of all those wonderful things inside. And, if you're lucky, you communicate with people who appreciate your work. Ahhhh.
Susan B. Nickson Currently, I'm working on the second draft of Fall Forever, the next book in my Healing Series. Annie Jenkins returns to answer the question posed at the end of Summer Solace.
Susan B. Nickson Inspiration is everywhere. I love where I am. I sit in a room that has a view of my horses, as well as the neighbor's cattle, donkeys, and goats. People, well, let's just say I've lived long enough to draw on that experience.
Susan B. Nickson The idea for Summer Solace germinated from my love for this life I'm living. As they say on bumper stickers, "I'm not from (fill in the blank), but I got here as soon as I could." That's the way I feel about living in the country.
The main character, Annie Jenkins, has also come to the country later in life; and the setting, as well as family, help her heal.
