Donna Scott Not at the moment, but this isn't the first time I've been asked the question. Hopefully by next year. :-)
Donna Scott Right now I'm editing (for the twentieth time or so) my next book--The London Monster. It's a story that takes place in 1790 and revolves around the eponymous sexual miscreant who terrorizes the streets of London, stabbing unsuspecting women after they rebuff his inappropriate propositions. He committed these offenses approximately 100 years before Jack the Ripper engaged in his derelict killings. I'm hoping that the book will be out January 2021.
Donna Scott If you would like to be a writer, my suggestion is to understand the craft fairly early on. This will save you hours of rewriting, deleting, and general frustration. Take some courses--online or in person--and then sit in a chair and write. Oh, and make sure you grow a thick skin because this is not a gentle ride. You will hear plenty of NOs along the way, but listen to the messages and do what you can to improve.
Donna Scott Shame the Devil came to me in pieces. I wanted to write about the Battle of Dunbar since it was a pivotal moment in the English Civil War, so that led me to choosing a Scottish soldier and placing him in a hostile environment--one of political opposition, social standing, and forbidden relationships. Once I knew the characters around him, I sketched out a basic plot and figured out the details as I moved along.
Donna Scott The best part of being a writer is definitely talking with readers and listening to their interpretations of what happens in my novel. Everyone brings their own histories and experiences to a book, so what they feel about a certain incident or character may be totally different from what I intended. I find it fascinating.
