Kitty Bardot When I find myself with writers block while working on a book, I have a notebook that I keep specifically for character sketches. If I can’t seem to move my story along I turn to it and start writing about one of my characters back stories. It could be any character from the book. I find that the more completely I build their world the easier the story comes. If that doesn’t work, I take a break from creative writing and spend some time with my journal. That usually helps me find why I’m blocked in the first place.
Kitty Bardot I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. I’ve got journals saved from as far back as high school and piles of notebooks with story ideas. I bought a couple stacks of romance paperbacks for ten cents a piece. I spent a summer reading them and decided that the romance genre combined three of my favorite things in life, writing, sex, and happily ever afters. I wrote a full manuscript that was absolute garbage and sent it to a well known publisher. It was way back when you had to print the whole thing and actually mail it. That was my first rejection. But I kept at it and found inspiration around every corner of my life.
Kitty Bardot I love creating worlds and following my characters through them.
Kitty Bardot Keep writing! Keep submitting! Don't let rejection letters stop you. Don't forget the art is in revision.
Kitty Bardot I am currently working on a sequel to Burlesque River, Burlesque on Bourbon. Bunny and Bridgette head to New Orleans for a performance. There, on the sultry southern streets, Brigette meets the man of her dreams. But his dark and mysterious past might be more than she bargained for.
Kitty Bardot I'm inspired every day by the things that I see and the people I meet. Just yesterday, I noticed the shapes in my husband's pillow looked like faces. 20 minutes later they each had a name and a story to go along with them.
Kitty Bardot Burlesque River is inspired by my life on the burlesque stage. Though, a complete work of fiction, the world I built has many similarities. I think of it as an alternate universe of sorts.
