I believe this is something that happens to every writer on occasion. When this occurs I simply view it as my mind telling me to take a break. The corollary is when you review your previous days' effort only to discover it is as terrible as you suspected. The key, as in all things, is to never, ever, give up.

Personally, it is letting characters take me on a journey to new places.

First, never, ever, give up! Second, what works best for me is to have an established routine. In my case, it means getting up early around 4am, fixing that first cup of coffee then writing until about 8am. I find if I try and write later in the day I am too easily distracted. Finally, I do keep a small notebook with me to jot down ideas. In some cases, dialogue can be triggered by something someone says while standing in line at a checkout counter of all places. However, the most important thing to remember is to write for pure enjoyment. Not all of your writings may be published. As an example, I recently completed a collection of children stories for our grandchildren as a legacy gift. Although it took 20 years to complete, it is our hope they will read it to their children and grandchildren someday.

Scott and I are currently working on the third book in the CUTOUT series which should be available by early summer 2021. It will continue interweaving the established characters with current geopolitical events.

My coauthor and I conceived the first two books during the mid-90s. The first book CUTOUT: Conspiracy was written in 1996 but was not published until this year. The second book CUTOUT: White Knight Dark Knight was conceived during 1998. This book was also published in 2020. In both cases, the premise for these books came from our experiences, either in the military, or during our time working with elements of the US government. Both books are works of fiction and bear no resemblance to any person or entity. You are welcome to visit Amazon.com to learn more.
