Why is it acceptable to fictionalize/retell some religious stories but not others?
Vaishnavi Patel Hi! I don't really have a good answer to this question, because I think it is acceptable to fictionalize or retell all religious stories, if done with the requisite knowledge, research, respect, and cultural connection. For example, just because I think it's acceptable to fictionalize or retell Christian stories and scripture, I would never do so myself, since I am Hindu and don't think I would have the appropriate skills. But I am comfortable retelling Hindu religious stories since I am Hindu and was raised Hindu, and so grew up with these stories and teachings, can speak to religious teachers, have a lot of tools to conduct research, and have the cultural context to understand the messages the retelling is sending.
