Mad Ferret is my most recent book and is about growing up in the late '80s and early to mid-'90s. I grew up in Sheffield and went to University in Salford and Bolton. It was a great time for music and a great time to be young. Although the book is set in a time and place I am familiar with, it is pure fiction and not based on people or events which took place. However, the familiar settings made it easier and more enjoyable to write.

I don't need to get inspired, as such. I love writing. I write when I am in the mood and never force it. If I am not in the mood I do something else instead. I believe the way a book is written affects how it is read. If it is a chore for me to write, it will be a chore for the reader to read. And neither of us wants that.
