Brian Shotton Kent Haruf used to say that before he would write, he would read Faulkner so he would remember good writing. I reread sections of books I adore. Sections from Something Wicked This Way Comes or a battle scene from Conan. These things remind me what might be. They set a bar I will never reach, but I will try.

Then I put on some music and let it fill my soul until the words tumble out of me.
Brian Shotton Book three of the Song of the Sword series, Scion. And another non-fiction spirituality book that remains untitled.
Brian Shotton Goodness...I love writing something unexpected. Being surprised by my own writing. I've written whole chapters that were not planned and just sat back and wondered where it came from.

I also limit writer's block by constantly keeping in my mind and thinking about the books I am writing. The characters and their problems.
Brian Shotton I am part of a reading group of three men who call ourselves The Illiterati. We alternate selecting books (usually taking place in a different country from around the world but sometimes offering our own words on the altar of
review). This is a long-winded way to say, I have no earthly clue what I'll be reading next but I can't wait to find out.
