Sometimes you need to walk away from a project, take a break for a few days. If I'm having a problem with a particular book, I will switch to another book I have been considering. I can't let frustration affect my creativity so I channel my energies in another direction and in most cases, the solution to my original story comes to me.

First, I am retired so the BEST thing is doing what I want, when I want. I can now do what I couldn't do before - let my imagination flow on paper.
Second, I enjoy creating characters, giving them a backstory, problems to solve and soul mate to interact with. I enjoy creating a mystery and working out the logistics.
Lastly, I write because I love to write, not for the money (what money, my husband asks). It warms my heart when a reader will comment that they liked my story, characters or style.

I just enjoy writing. Period. Sometimes it might be a blog, journal entry, Facebook post or email. I enjoy putting words on a page. Big tip - always, always proof what you write whether it is an email, letter, book. You will be amazed how there is always room for improvement or corrections that need to be made.

Go for it! Put your idea within a circle in the center of a page. Let your imagination fly as you play the what if game and branch off from that circle with smaller circles that expand on a story for that idea.
Example: idea - young woman looks up sees someone in the grocery store and faints. Small circle - he looks like/reminds her of her deceased fiance; Smaller circle - turns out he IS her fiance and leads a double life. Successive smaller circles explain the story.
Another small circle could be she is in witness protection, he is the man that tried to kill her. Smaller circle she is on the run again......

I am currently between projects as I've just completed my 12th book - Invincible - and am preparing for my April 1st release day. That said, I am always tossing around ideas for the next book and have been mulling over my cottage mystery or an auction house trilogy. Both involve ghosts and some suspense. Which would you prefer to read?
