I wrote my first novel after watching then reading The Bourne Identity. I kept talking to my wife about the differences between the two and how I wished he would've done this or that differently. She finally got sick of hearing it and said, "Why don't you just shut up and write your own damn book?" Within three months, the (very choppy and rough) first draft was complete. Everything has spiraled from that. Now I have too many story lines stuck in my head. I have to get them out.

I play mind-numbing games like Minesweeper, Solitaire or Sudoku. If that doesn't work, I start writing something new until I can't stand not working on my current project and go back to it.

Read. Keep writing. Read. Don't let agent rejections drag you down. Read. Write. Don't be afraid to self-publish (after you've had others look it over). And, most importantly, don't ever give up on yourself!

I'm currently rewriting (again) St. Logan, my first novel. I'm working on edits/rewrite of The Fatal Tape - a novel I co-wrote with my wife. I also have three new novels I'm bouncing between.

I listen to a list of modern music and movie scores to set the tone for a particular story or scene before I sit down to write. Once I'm there, I usually play a constant loop of a steady, calming classical piece - I've written a ton to Debussy's Clair De Lune.
