Get out of the house and do exercise. Usually I will walk with my sony recorder and dictate a few scenes. It doesn't matter how terrible they may sound, just as long as I'm getting words down. I then come home and translate it into my writing app. That's usually all I need to do to get going again.

Like most authors, I love reading. At first I thought that the dream was likely going to stay just that. I mean, who can write a whole novel, right? When I mentioned it to my husband just causally he replied 'why don't you'. Strangely enough that served as some sort of permission for me to give it a try.

I have a gorgeously illustrated deck of tarot cards that I often flick through to help generate plot or character ideas. The Empress card is my favorite in the whole deck and inspired me to write one scene in The King's Marked that comes about 3/4 way through. After that I had to build a novel around it.
