In part, working 9-5 in a cubicle inspired me to write to escape the job I was stuck in. But most of my inspiration comes from just daydreaming and writing down my ideas.

As the father of two girls, I was having a hard time finding stories with positive female role models that allowed themselves to have fun. The female lead is always the serious, responsible one. Why should boys get to have all the fun? This motivated me to write stories that challenge the stereotypical image of a strong female character, and explore teen relationships and attraction beyond the heterosexual norms that audiences are commonly presented with.
For the actual plot, I was intrigued by the idea of neutrinos when I read an article about a Canadian physicist, Arthur MacDonald, winning the Nobel Prize for his research. I thought, "wouldn't it be cool if that power could be harnessed instead of passing through us...?"
