The Mariner's Grandson started out as a challenge from my wife to write a short story. I had no idea where to start, so I created a middle-aged man facing a crossroads in his life. As a physician, I see this with my patients everyday. Once I had created the character Duncan Craig, the rest was easy.

Once I've started, it's my characters that I find inspiring, and I look forward to developing them and their storylines. When I'm starting a new book however, it's mostly my wife who pushes me along!
