This is really a great question...
It's not from my own personal life, but rather a story from my family from the early 20th century. If I remember the story correctly, one of my grandmother's brothers died in a very strange "accident" or altercation with the police. It was played off as if he had taken his own life, but the injuries did not add up. It was a very strange story that I only heard in the last year or two but I remember thinking, this is something I should dig into more when my mom told me.

I completely remove the pressure to write. If I can't write for a day, I let it go. If I force myself, the writing won't work, but I have to give myself permission to walk away for a day or two.

That's actually interesting, at least it is to me. I have a dear friend who is in Colombia who is a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings and the loved the Elves, but he said to me that he wished that some of them looked like him. So, for his birthday, I wrote a story with an Elf in it that looked like him. That story sparked ideas for more stories and soon I was piecing those stories together to create a novel. I knew the story was too big to tell in one volume so I decided to create a trilogy of stories to tell the tale of High Prince Altair and his lover, Prince Whelan of the Realm of Waters.

The moment when even I'm surprised by a turn a story I'm writing takes. That moment is pure magic. It makes me feel as though I've actually stepped into the world I'm creating and I'm experiencing it in a different way than I could have imagined.

I'm currently working on the initial edits on book two of The Eagle and Heart Trilogy. It's titled The Eagle and the Trembling Vessel. I'm also working on a collection of ghost stories that is currently untitled.
