J.P. Redding I have been noodling various aspects of OFF GRID since college - including my Political Ecosystems Matrix and 7 Dialectics. I was introduced to the concept of a Plasma Drive in the early 1980s. Over the last decade or so, I have been shocked by our country's movement towards socialism and authoritarianism - not from the right, but from the left. As a student of human and organizational behavior, I wanted to explain WHY this is happening. In this sense, OFF GRID is a philosophical treatise, wrapped in a poltical thriller, with a sci-fi and romantic twist. Not unlike Ayn Rands Atlas Shrugged - but with a large dose of faith.
J.P. Redding I have had several paranormal events in my life, including a "burning bush" moment, that might provide substance for the plot of a new novel.
J.P. Redding I am considering a sequel to my first novel, OFF GRID.
J.P. Redding I will repeat the axiom that you write what you know, what you have a passion for. Also, do not be locked-in by traditional cookbook approaches to writing where you have one main character with a traditional arc (eg. poor boy overcomes societal barriers to become good/rich). I know this sells many, many books, but it seems constraining.
J.P. Redding I am a first-time author, so the experience is somewhat new. But I would say that my first novel was an adventure into what I really believe in, including spirituality, philosophy, and politics.
J.P. Redding I do something physical such as biking, hiking, or cross country skiing. I find that I can work out a sticking point in my novel and then use my smartphone as a recorder to capture my fresh idea.
J.P. Redding Countdown 1945 by Chris Wallace and For the Love It (The Mammoth Legacy of Roma and Dave McCoy) by Robin Morning.
