Miles Rausch My advice is to ignore any compliments about your talent as a writer. If writing a book is a track-and-field race, then talent gives you an advantage with your starting blocks, but you still have to run. That's why hard work, consistency and professionalism are the real secrets to success. Thank that person for their kind words, but you shouldn't celebrate until someone calls you the hardest working writer they've ever seen. Then you know you're on your way.
Miles Rausch The novel I'm working on now started as one of my first short stories. I was inspired by the shape of the storytelling. I wanted to write a story that had a dramatic climax in the chronological middle and told the story by coming at it from both ends of time. I've since expanded on that idea and gone a little crazy with it. The novel will probably be unreadable, but it's kinda fun to write.
Miles Rausch I'm currently working on finishing a new novel, editing a collection of poetry, listing my self-published novel for paperback and completing a short story or two. Plus, you know, my day job and keeping my kids alive.
Miles Rausch "I'm so excited for midnight! It's almost time for us to switch places," said the reflection.
Miles Rausch I think I'd visit Narnia. I'd like to spend time in the regions of Narnia not explored much in the books. I'd love to learn more about the people of Archenland, for instance.
Miles Rausch I'm trying to expand my poetry. I'm reading "Instructions for My Imposter" by Kathleen McGookey right now and have many more to follow. For novels, I'm reading "A Scanner Darkly" by Philip K. Dick.
