I was a big fan of Briggs Land and Briggs Land: Lone Wolves. Are there still plans for future BL series?
Brian Wood Yes, but not in graphic novel form. I'm working on new stories now.

Is Dark Horse considering having you write more volumes of Aliens: Defiance? (or are you considering writing more? I'm not quite sure how publishing works with franchise comic titles). I adore Zula, and they're easily my favorites amongst the plethora of comics in the Alien-verse, and it seems upsetting to leave it open-ended, even if this allows for a more hopeful finale than a solid ending would have.
Brian Wood I was contracted to write those 12 issues, and was asked to leave it open enough that more stories could come. I don't know what the exact plan is now, but Fox really likes these characters, so fingers crossed. I'd write more if I can. Thanks for the question. Zula's one of my favorites as well.

I have to ask why two of your series, I believe Demo and one other one, had painfully but enjoyably thick first volumes and very skinny second volumes. Why is that? I've read most of your work and even practice cartooning by trying to copy your panels but I ask the only thing that has frustrated me: Why did the enjoyment factor and possible back pain :p lessen with a shorter second volume? Thank you.
Brian Wood That's a pretty good question, and in the case of Demo was probably purely due to scheduling. Becky and I did the first Demo early in our careers when we were trying to establish ourselves. By the time we did Demo 2, we were much busier and juggling multiple projects. A shorter second series was all that was possible, if we were going to do anything at all. First Demo: 12 stories, second Demo: 6 stories.

I just finished the first issue of Starve and i wanted to ask you what other jobs/occupations did you consider for Gavin Cruikshank?
Brian Wood None at all. The job was created first, since the job (chef) is the premise of the book, and Gavin was created next to fill that job.

Hi Brian, greetings from Venezuela. I am a big fan of your work. My question is simply; Do you have a beloved character that you hope to work with someday?
Brian Wood I always prefer to work on original characters, but I would like to write an Aliens book one day.

Brian Wood Thanks! I did have the plot from day one, I always knew exactly how I would end the series. But I can't really answer the part about the slabs without leaving a huge spoiler for everyone to see.

PS: What do you having coming down the pike that you are excited about? Any superhero stuff? I loved your take on Star Wars episode 4.5 and included it on my "best of 2014" list (it will be tough for Marvel to top that, now that they are covering the same era for some reason) and The Massive is so unpredictable! If I had to pick ONE thing from your catalog to be my favorite, I would probably say Northlanders. Dan
Brian Wood My two Image books: Starve (out in May), and Black Road (out in Sept). No superhero stuff on my desk at the moment. I'm really a creator-owned guy, and after this last couple years of superhero and licensed work, I want to do more original projects.

My question is about one of your oldest and longest pieces. I've read that DMZ may become a tv series and I am curious how involved you are in that, will it be very different from the comics, what can you tell us? Dan
Brian Wood I am not involved one bit. Its the nature of the way DC Entertainment does things. They like to separate their comic book people from the other media people.

You are one of my favorite writer.Local and Northlanders are some of the best comics I have ever read. Will you ever write something similar to these masterpieces ?
Brian Wood I have recently announced Black Road, which is another viking series. Image Comics in September of this year. Garry Brown's drawing it. I've been trying to get something new going with Ryan Kelly for years, but he seems to have moved on to other projects.

Will there ever be any more DEMO books with Becky Cloonan or without?
Brian Wood I can't say for sure there will be. Right now no plans, but we never had plans to do a Volume 2 until, suddenly, all the stars aligned. So that might happen again.
