I use the "100 words a day" method. When writer's block hits me, I force myself to sit down at the keyboard each day and write at least 100 words of fiction. (I can write more than that, of course, but no less.) The writing doesn't have to be good or even mediocre, but it must be at least 100 words and it must be fiction. (Writing emails does not count.)
It really is not that hard to come up with 100 words. (In fact, what I am writing in response to this question will probably be longer than 100 words.) The discipline of composing that much every day helps to "jump start" my writing during a dry period.
