I've always wanted to live in the world of The Lioness Rampant by Tamora Pierce. It was my favorite series in middle school and I wanted to be a female knight so badly. But when I think about the lack of modern-day conveniences I reconsider. Maybe the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton and I could work with the supernatural or the alternate reality of Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. I'd be the same person but I would be in a better world...

I have a habit of buying books and taking a million years to read them. So before I can get a new bookshelf I have 50 books to read. The ones next on my list are The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, Crescent City by Sarah J Mass, and We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal.

I usually have multiple projects going at once, so if I ever do get stuck I jump to another project for a minute while I figure out what to do about the block. I also have a very busy life with a full-time job, four pets, and a huge family to spend time with. So I am usually thinking about my writing all day before I get around to it and when I sit down to type the block is gone.

Getting lost in your own creation is thrilling. I love books that take me away. Books that make me want to stay up reading are perfect in my mind. I know I love my story when I get swept away in what I've made. I love actually feeling for my characters, thinking about them when I'm not writing, and wondering what trouble I can get them in to. Loving your work is the best feeling as an author.

Never stop writing. Keep a notebook or some way to record your thoughts with you at all times. I used to carry notebooks and now I add notes on my phone with names, quotes, or scenes that come to mind for no reason. They could work later in a story.

I am writing the sequel and a prequel for Dark Effulgence. I have also started two other trilogies though they are very fantasy based instead of paranormal.

I read way too many books as a child so I think almost anything is possible. So I can develop a story idea from a song, the way the sky looks on that day, or a simple what if. Do I finish all those stories? Nope. But they are great writing exercises that test my imagination.

I'm inspired by almost anything but this idea came while on lunch break. I was working a customer service job and while riding the elevator back, I asked myself what would happen if I got stuck and needed to use the restroom. For some reason, my solution was a demonic best friend who I could call at a moment's notice.
