John Lawrence Hi Barb, Thank you so much for your note and question! The plan for the next book is to be available by the end of the year (I will post here for advance reader copies to be available sooner), and the third book released early next summer. Best wishes, John
John Lawrence I guess I need to start thinking about myself as a writer to be able to answer that question! I love writing, it seems to free my more authentic voice...and like everything worthwhile in life, it does not come easy, it's work, it's battling insecurities, but I still love it.
John Lawrence Write. Every day. Not easy, but as people like Steven Pressfield, Seth Godin, Brian Koppelman will talk about, you need to be a PRO, you write every day, no matter how you're feeling, treat it like a job that you show up and work at every day. Then it does get easier when you sit down to get right back in the groove.
John Lawrence I am editing the second book (of four) in this Playing Doctor series. The second book covers my Intern year as a resident. I think there's a nice arc starting with book one, where as a medical student, you are more of a bystander, visiting different rotations and hospitals; then during Intern year, you're working, but really more grunt labor as you apprentice and face a host of challenges now that you're truly a doctor and the consequences of your actions are much larger.
Also working on several screenplays, all of which are fictional, some of which are adaptions.
John Lawrence One way I dealt with the stress of being on call during residency training was to write email posts to my friends, who were outside having fun, about the entertaining, confusing, frightening stories from the hospital that night. They were a bit manic and I think a few friends were worried I had broken into the pharmacy! Eventually a friend asked if they could publish some of the stories and I said I would write the whole thing down instead.
