Be willing to "let it go", both in terms of putting aside a story when it's not ready and to release the book into the public when it is. You never develop a "thick skin" as many advise. You simply learn to recognize and acknowledge your mistakes and fix them.

The best part is being able to live in one's fantasies and escape the problems of real life, which is much like reading in that regard. But in writing, there's the creation aspect. There's something fascinating about creating new worlds and people, aliens, beings, cultures, etc. and the possibilities that come with that to explore the unrealized possibilities of our own societies. I don't believe in writer's block. I believe if a writer is stopped, it's the unconscious mind screaming that something is wrong with the story. Take a break, let the mind relax, and the fix will come.
