Shortly after I turned fifty, I entertained—and dismissed—the idea of writing a historical murder mystery. A week later, I was mulling the idea over again and pictured a scene of a tall dark-haired Druid crouched in a small underground chamber talking to a short, blond and very nervous nun. Writing the five volumes of “The Druid Chronicles” was what I did to find out how they got there and what happened to them after that.
