Thomas Stimson I got the idea for The Rising Star of Kimmie Coconut Tree from my Vietnamese wife who has a very tall (for their culture) friend who stands about five foot eight or so. She had trouble getting dates, being taller than the average male in Ho Chi Minh City. Ended up marrying a six foot plus Texan and they have been happily married ever since.

Combine that with my wife having several sisters who mostly remain close to each other despite being spread across three continents and you have a story of a tall, insecure Asian woman who finds her soul-mate and biggest cheerleader in a successful blue-collar American.

The story is sprinkled with anecdotes and misunderstandings that come from our family's lives as Kimmie grows and develops in a variety of ways "changing from a moth into a butterfly".
Thomas Stimson First, I will re-read what I have written and see if something doesn't spark me in one way or another. If that does not work, I typically take a break from that project and look at something else I have been working on and see if I can pick up a thread from there and move that forward. Thanks for asking!
Thomas Stimson I am not a writer in the professional sense. I have dabbled in writing more off than on over the years. However, as I get older and closer to retirement, I find the process of writing and watching a story develop over time out of the resources of my mind and imagination to be a satisfying one. Puzzling out how to explain this element or find a way to get a character out of a particular jam is fun and keeps my mind off of the troubles of the world we currently live in. Thanks for asking!
Thomas Stimson I am currently working on what will either be a short story or novella about a junior file clerk discovering a hidden/lost street in his city where the residents have not been charged/paying property taxes for many years and how he goes about finding it (The Secret of Linden Court).

Another story is a about an Indian Sikh from a farming family who lands an engineering job in Sugar Land Texas and his downfall at the hands of greedy mentors. (A Bitter Ending in Sugar Land).

Lastly, and I have been working on this off and on for several years, an extraordinarily tall and painfully insecure Vietnamese woman comes to the US to marry a man of another race who is also a social outcast...and her journey of personal growth by using what was considered her handicap in her country as an asset to success. (The Courtship of Kimmie Coconut Tree). Thanks for asking!
