Tom Milton Over the past 25 years I have spent a lot of time in the Dominican Republic, where I have observed social issues that are similar to the ones we have in our country. I know people who work on social issues in that country, and I also know people who have gone there as fugitives from the law or from a crisis in their lives. I made a fugitive the narrator of this novel, and I put him in a coastal town where he got involved with two women who were dealing with social issues of the town. Through his interactions with these women he confronts what drove him to being a fugitive.
