David E. Miles It is named after my son so that is a start. I tell him stories I make up when he goes to bed and over the years they evolve, some to a ridiculous level that will never see the light of day, lucky for you!

My recent book is about the story of an underdog. I like underdogs but then again who doesn't!
David E. Miles For me inspiration has come at odd times, driving, sleeping, on the loo!

I also try to look at the wider world around me and see what story I could make of inanimate objects. This isn't always fruitful as a story I had about an electricity pylon I saw was truly awful, even my wife said so!
David E. Miles I have seven books in total and trying to deal with them one at a time. However, I get excited by one and start working on it, then get excited about another and flit over to that. I need to be more strict with myself I think!

At the moment I am mostly doing picture editing, which I enjoy because this is where the book comes to life and so does my mental images of the characters.
David E. Miles As the ad says, just do it! I spent years procrastinating about my writing and then decided one day to just get over myself and do it. My wife and son always said my books were great but then they would, wouldn't they!

So, I got the opinion of a few friends who would be brutally honest and they also said they were great. It gave me the impetus to put my work out to a wider audience.

Slowly I gained enough confidence to not seek approval before proceeding. Some are lucky to have that confidence from the start but I wasn't
David E. Miles I enjoy the freedom it gives you. You can basically work anywhere you choose. I've written books in laybys, service stations, at home, in a field, on a plane and a ferry. Not all of them have been published mind!

It is nice to be able to get the ideas out of your head and see them in print too!
David E. Miles At that point I usually take a break from writing. This can be for 10 minutes, 1 hour or even a week or so. I have tried to work through it before but I end up forcing the issue and writing something I feel is substandard which you change at a later stage during editing anyway.

Another thing I do, if it is possible, is move to another section of the book and come back to the blocked section at a later date
