Tom Friedrich The idea for my recent book is a mystery to me. The characters came to me, and then I expressed them through the story. What would they do, in a given situation? What would I do in a given scenario? Who cares? What matters is what the characters would do.
Tom Friedrich Inspiration to write is organic. I can't control it. When I'm inspired to write, nothing can stop me. It's like an itch that must be scratched. When I'm not feeling, it, I don't even try. The juice won't be worth the squeeze.

Tom Friedrich My advice for aspiring writers is to write. Draft something. But then, read it critically. If it's good build on it. If it's not, start over. When I write something, I re-read it/tweak it 100 times before it's done.

Tom Friedrich Writing can't be forced. When it is, it isn't good. as difficult as it is to wait for inspiration, that's the key to good writing.
