Harley Ferry It was a story concept I came up with in junior high, but I did not start writing until many years later. I have always enjoyed history and learning about the past. We are supposed to learn from the past, to stop bad things from happening. However, I noticed awful things kept happening, no matter how much history we learned. Furthermore, my textbooks did not convey the worst of these events. Often history is told from the perspective of the winner to make it seem like they are not so bad. They had good reasons to do terrible things. It pushed me to start thinking about how life might be different if one told history differently, or if events unfolded differently. What if everyone learned both sides of history and made better choices? I thought it would be interesting to write about war from both sides, to show how everyone thinks they are morally justified. I wanted my characters to find a way to get past these beliefs to end the war.
