C.J. Urquico I was frozen with fear as I sat at the top of the stairs, listening to the menacing sound of the floorboards creaking and groaning in the darkness, growing louder, faster and closer by the second. Just as I thought it was about to reach me, I woke in a cold sweat; to realize I was sitting at the top of the stairs.
C.J. Urquico After years of reading so much over so many years, I thought it would be nice to share with my own voice.
C.J. Urquico I was on a plane, flying from Guam, traveling to San Antonio via Tokyo. I started writing the idea in a notebook. It's how kids might be confused about what is happening in the world because of the pandemic.

Twenty-some hours later, with painful feet, a cold beer, and before I went horizontal, I transcribed what I wrote into my MacBook. I mentioned it to my sister, who hosted me in SA, and she said, good idea, paint me something.

I read a copy of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss that she had in the room and went to sleep.

I went to Jerry's Artarama the following day, bought an easel and pastels, and focused on relearning chalk.

Six days later, I'm flying back to Guam with my kids. I saw young children struggling with their masks, wearing it wrong, and decided to finish the book ASAP.
