I think I could be successful in a low-tech world like in the Patrick Rothfuss "Kingkiller Chronicles," or even Oz as depicted by Gregory Maguire in "Wicked." I wouldn't do anything important to either story there. I'd probably be a baker or tavern keeper or something.
