Not my genre! But maybe being asked to write a horror story.

Elizabethan England, and specifically the neighborhood of The Globe Theater! I'd love to see Shakespeare in one of his own plays.

I assume you mean "The Lincoln Moon". Well, I kept running across the story when I read biographies of Lincoln. (I read eight one year just for fun.) I kept thinking the People v. Armstrong would make a good book, so I finally took a look at it and tried to figure out a way to tell it in such a way that the reader, like Scrump, would meet Lincoln for the first time. Most people I know see Lincoln as some stuffy pontificator that saves the country and not as a flesh and blood person. Seeing him through another character's eyes, gave me a chance to experience him myself! I loved writing this book.

It helps to be a reader. Reading other authors and the way they tell a story of turn a phrase often inspires me. I think if you write books, you need to read books.

I am fictionalizing a story with the true life characters that were the genesis for the Omaha riot of 1919. It's a bit of a challenge. I'm trying to tell it as a story within a story.

Put you seat of the pants to the seat of the chair. Just show up at your desk, your computer. Moves the ball forward every day, no matter how little. Oh, and tell the voice in your head that "it's no good" to shut the hell up.

I get to ball my characters as well as the story teller. I guess I'm a frustrated actor? Or maybe a multiple personality?

That's a good question! Sometimes the writing flows, sometimes it just comes out in drips and drabs. But the important thing is to put anything down, no matter how short or inadequate. Just show up on the page and when you can't stand it anymore, just set it aside till the next day.
