Kenneth J. Martz There are three things that often do to manage writer's block. 1) Meditate. Often just taking some time can free resistance and allow new insight to arrive. 2) Write on a different topic. My books often start with an outline of topics. If I am stuck in one place, it is easy to choose another and keep going. 3) Return to my readers. Remembering my community is incredibly helpful. Often the book topic was already chosen (requested) by one of my readers. Remembering this writing as a gift is a great tool to get past my personal block, and get back to work. Of course, these tools work well in other areas of life also....
Kenneth J. Martz There are many parts of writing: Ideas, typing words to paper, editing, publishing, marketing, and so forth. Don't expect to be an expert in all these areas overnight. These can be managed by coordinating the supports from other professionals in these areas. You are called to write (and whatever your profession is from teachers to politicians) because of an emotion in your heart, which is valuable to the world. Start there, take your time. The rest can be polished along the way.
Kenneth J. Martz The best thing about being a writer is that each and every one of us has a unique gift that we bring based on our experience, which perhaps should be written. While not everyone has the gift of writing, that can be managed with technical support from editors, web designers, and other such specialists.

The best thing about being a writer is that it allows us to take our unique gifts, in my case 25 years of experience in mental health and addiction treatment, and share them with others. I regularly read books, journal articles, and "how-to" videos, on everything from computers through how to fix my garage door. As a writer, it allows a shared, community exchange of our gifts to our friends as well as to others in need.
Kenneth J. Martz Manage My Emotions: What I Wish I'd Learned in School about Anger, Fear, and Love reflects the concern that I felt as I wrote it, that some things should be taught earlier. Many of my readers have agreed that they too wish they had read it sooner.

I am thrilled to say that one of my current projects is a partnership with my daughter. She offers wonderful insights into our children's book version. When finished, it can be a tool to help begin these conversations earlier, heading off a lifetime of struggle for the next generation.
Kenneth J. Martz I have enjoyed writing for many years. I started with some poetry. However, as my clinical practice grew, I felt the need to share those insights with others. With the recent challenges, it has felt even more important to share and find ways to support each other.
Kenneth J. Martz After writing Manage My Emotions, I got lots of questions about applying and personalizing the material. Because of that, I created the Manage My Emotions Journal, designed to prompt personalized thinking and practice. Some of my best material is in response to questions that are asked since I try to tailor the material to my readers' needs.
